Age analyses were based upon the scale readings of 555 barracuda, back-calculated lengths from scale measurements, and upon modes in the length-frequency distributions of 2707 specimens from southern Florida, which revealed a change from a shallow-water habitat to that of a reef existence and a change in food habits. The great barracuda, Sphyraena barracuda (Walbaum), family Sphyraenidae, is

There were 19 species distributed to 8 families which are considered as by-catch and low-valued fish along the 4 landing sites of Palanan, Isabela. Introduction BARRACUDAS (PISCES: SPHYRAENIDAE) OF THE INDIAN OCEAN AND ADJACENT SEAS —A PRELIMINARY REVIEW OF THEIR SYSTEMATICS AND ECOLOGY!,* DONALD P. DE SYLVA Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, University of Miami Miami, Florida. U. S. A. ABSTRACT A preliminary review of the barracudas of the Indian Ocean and adjacent seas is presented.
The family Sphyraenidae, including a single extant genus Sphyraena Artedi 1793 (Ballen 2019) occurring in tropical and temperate seas worldwide, is characterized by an elongate body, long pointed head, two widely separated dorsal fins, and large sharp conical teeth on both jaws (Senou 2001 ).
Among the latter, Sphy raena is the only genus with a complete eircum orbital series-lacrimalplus five eircumorbitals -andthe only one in. which the infraorbital sensory canal extends continuously from the lacrimal backtoits junction with the supra orbital canal.

Sphyraena arabiansis commonly known as the Arabian barracuda Is a species of barracuda found in the eastern Arabian Sea. Once thought to be a population of great barracuda they are now considered distinct due to morphological and genetic differences. [1] [2] Distribution [ edit]
Sphyraena sphyraena has a long, compressed body with a circular cross-section [3] covered with small, cycloid scales. It has a large mouth with an underbite, lined with prominent sharp teeth. It is dark above and silvery below, and in some freshly-caught specimens there is a yellow band parallel to the lateral line. [4]
Usually females are larger than males, and Adults grow over 230 kg (rarely) in the Mediterranean, up to 320 kg in the western Atlantic, and up to 537 kg in the southeastern Pacific. is a 536.15 kg (1182 lb) fish caught off Iquique, Chile in 1953.
On April 17, 2018, four specimens of the lessepsian barracuda Sphyraena chrysotaenia were captured in the Gulf of Heraklion in Crete. The specimens were genetically identified and their full

However, the vast major-ity of reef fishes settle as tiny post-larvae which are highly susceptible to a broad variety of small-gaped fishes, as well as predatory invertebrates, sea snakes, and seabirds.
